US Interviews

Interviews

Interviews by Institutes abroad is very rare and is usually limited to some business schools. You most probably will not have to go through one. But, just to let you know, Wharton visits Delhi, Bombay and some other cities every year to interview applicants. Some schools conduct interviews telephonically and some others through their alumni who are based in the city you live in.

If you happen to be applying to an institute that wants to interview, you ought to be prepared.

Preparing for the Interview - have the right attitude and do your homework.

Consider the interview as your final opportunity to market yourself. Establish your objectives for the interview. Think about ways of reinforcing your strengths and addressing your weaknesses. Be prepared to support your claims in the application essays. Good preparation will also help you relax somewhat during the interview.

Know all that you can about the school and the program - the school brochures and the website can be useful sources. Carry out a search in Google or Yahoo by the name of the school and read the relevant results. This could make you aware of some specific details about the school or the program, which would reflect in your answers during the interview. It could pay to project yourself as a person who pays attention to detail. It also conveys your interest in the school.

Prepare for the typical interview questions. Most of the interview questions come from two categories
(1) Standard questions for all students like Why MBA, Why Yale etc.
(2) Questions tailor-made for you based on your essays and your resume.
The interviewer may wish to probe into some of your claims to fame in your essays. Be sure to review your application, essays and resume prior to the interview. The worst thing you can do is contradicting yourself at the interview.

List of standard questions
Why do you wish to pursue the program that you have applied to?
Why do you want to attend this school?
Name some other schools that you have applied to?
Tell me about yourself.
What are your career goals?
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
What value can you add to the program?
What are your greatest achievements?
What do you consider your three top strengths/weaknesses?
Why should we accept you?
Do you have any questions?

Most of the above questions would have been covered in your essays in one form or the other. Review the exercise that you did in the essays section to get your life in perspective. The interview is your big chance to elaborate on things that you could not cover in your essays. You should also be ready with 3-5 good questions that reflect your concerns about the school and your success in the program.

Other typical interview questions would most likely be from one of these categories:

a) Undergraduate Education

Tips:

Remember your interviewers are from the academia, so give adequate importance to learning and education. Show your commitment to learning and growing. Talk about your extracurricular activities and how these activities helped build your well-rounded personality. Detail your contribution as well as what you learnt. Describe how your schooling will help you in achieving your career goals. Describe any leadership experiences and what you learnt from those experiences.

b) Work Experience

Tips:

Be enthusiastic about your job experience. Portray yourself as one who tries to exceed expectations. Stress on teamwork, motivation, continuous learning and ownership. Be positive when talking about your boss or your firm. If you changed jobs, it should have been motivated by a desire for more challenges, more responsibilities, opportunity to grow and so on. Avoid negative comments like unappreciated, underpaid etc. Don’t be afraid to talk about a failure. Stress on what you learnt from your failure. Describe your leadership experiences at work. Leadership potential is a very important quality desired by all MBA programs.

c) Goals

Tips:

Show that you are committed to your career objectives. Your goals should be consistent with your experience and your desire to pursue further education. Be practical where you see yourself in five years ( refrain from making a statement like "I will be the CEO of Hewlett-Packard") and be prepared to demonstrate how advanced training and education will help you achieve your goals. Highlight some of the strengths of the program to further justify your choice. Make sure that all your answers connect and reflect the thought you have put in planning for your future.

d) Personal

Tips:

Be sure to prepare a brief outline of your upbringing. Take every opportunity to show that you are achievement oriented and strive to develop both personally and professionally. At the same time, show yourself to be a well-balanced and sensible person with varied interests. In your choice of books, it does not matter whether it is science fiction or biographies: the idea is to show yourself as knowledgeable in whatever interests you pursue.

Recommendation Letters

Your recommendations are important because they verify your claims and provide the admissions committee an opportunity to learn more about you from people you have worked closely with. Hence, good recommendations can serve as a powerful tool to ‘sell’ yourself to the committee. We list here the common issues:

Why are Recommendation Letters important?

Every part of your application, builds an image of your personality in the minds of the admissions committee. The recommendation letters provide a third person’s perspective on the kind of person you are. What a recommendation letter writes about you should add or supplement what you claim to be through your essays/SOP and work experience details. It certainly would create doubts about you as a person if the image that your recommendation letter creates completely inverts the image that you’ve been trying to create through your essays/SOPs and work experience details.

The one simple way to make recommendation letters contribute to your admission process is to keep your application straight and honest. Present the facts as they actually are - be truthful about every claim you make in every aspect of your application.

There is one thing that you certainly can do and that is to choose the people who can recommend you judiciously. Choose a person who knows you well and likes you as a person and then ask him/her to give a fair assessment of you as a person in the recommendation letter.

Your application form will give you details about the recommendation letters you are required to submit. The number of recommendations and from whom - whether from your work or from your school or both.

Choosing Your Recommenders

Business Schools: Most schools require 2-3 recommendation letters. Choosing the appropriate mix of recommenders largely depends on the program you are applying for. For an MBA program, two recommendations from work and one from school is generally a good balance. If the school asks for only two recommendations, it would be advisable to get both work related. As far as possible, it is advisable to get one recommendation letter from your immediate supervisor. However, if it is not possible, then a former supervisor would be a good choice. As a last alternative, you could use a colleague who has worked closely with you. It is not advised to apply without a recommendation from your current job place. For more details, check out the recommendation letter section on the MBA channel.

Graduate Programs: For an MS or Doctoral program, you should get atleast two recommendations from your professors. If you have performed research or worked on thesis, it is highly recommended that you get the reference letter from your Advisor. If you worked for a company either full time or as a summer intern, you could take one letter from your immediate supervisor.

Undergraduate Programs: For candidates applying for an undergraduate program, very few schools ask for a recommendation letter. If asked, you should get it from one of your favorite teachers in school.

Some other points to keep in mind while choosing your recommender:
Choose people who know you well. Rather than choosing a famous person who has no intimate knowledge of your skills and abilities, it is much more powerful to use a person who can illustrate your strengths and show you at your best.
Choose people who really like you. It is important that a recommender invests time in writing your recommendation. A person who likes you will take out the time as well as put a positive spin on your qualities.
Choose people who can address more than one key criterion: your business and managerial skills, intellectual ability, leadership potential, maturity, work ethics etc.
Give your recommender an outline of the assignments you have handled at work. Include in the outline some suggestions on how he/she might address specific issues such as analytical ability, integrity, intellectual curiosity etc.

Statement of purpose

Statement of purpose

Your previous academic background and scores in the standardised tests ( GRE / SAT) show what you are capable of delivering. The admissions committee also wants to know what are the motivations that are driving your life at this point in time. Why do you want to pursue the course you are applying for?

How relevant is the course to your long term goals?

Since you will not go through an interview, the admissions committee gets to know about you as a person through your SOP. SOP is very important. Spend time to get it right.

How can you get it right? - by being honest about yourself and projecting your true self in the SOP.

What should you do to write a good SOP?

Think about yourself and do the following exercise:
Write down all your past accomplishments - academic, extra curricular, social contributions, sports - whatever you've done well in life. Also write down all the things that you feel or care for strongly.
What is it that you want to do in life? What is the career you want to choose for yourself in the future and why?
Write down the area that you want to study further in. How will taking up this course of study help you achieve your long term career goals that you described above?
Now, write down why should you have the life that you want? Why should you get all the things you listed above? What qualifies you to have all the success you desire?

There's another thing you got to do, use the internet or the university prospectus to study about the university you are applying to and the course you want to study. Then, You MUST mention in your SOP as to why you chose the university you are applying to.

Now, you've got the contents of your SOP in place.
The next step is to write it in the form of an essay.

Make sure your SOP is grammatically correct, is written in a good flow and does not exceed the prescribed word limit. The SOP should be enthusiastic, friendly and confident in tone. If writing is not your strength, don't hesitate to take the help of a friend or colleague who can write well.

Tip:
If you are not comfortable with editing your own essays. Use a Professional Essay Editing Service. There are many Essay Editing Services available on the Web. Do compare and make an analysis before you take up a service.

Education System In United States Of America

The U.S. educational system is very different from its Indian counterpart. U.S.A. has more than 3,300 accredited colleges and universities, which offer a wide range of graduate and undergraduate programs.
:: Institutions :: Programs :: Accrediation :: Semester System ::

Types Of Institutions

There is no central ministry of education in the U.S. and each institution can determine its own programs and admission standards. There are private as well as state funded colleges.

Universities are academic institutions that include one or more undergraduate colleges, as well as any number of graduate and professional schools, i.e. schools offering study for a single profession such as law.

Four year colleges are undergraduate institutions offering academic programs leading to a bachelor’s degree. Community colleges or junior colleges are undergraduate institutions offering upto two years of academic instruction beyond secondary school at a relatively low cost. These offer certificate programs that last for a few months to a year as well as associate degrees.

Institutes of technology or polytechnic institutes offer specialized programs in sciences and engineering, in addition to basic sciences, humanities and the social sciences, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

US Application procedure for Undergraduate program

Application FormsSend enquiries at least 15 to 18 months before the proposed date of admission. There are two ways to get application forms.

Requesting Application Forms via email : You can request application forms from the universities website. Most universities have a form on their website which can be completed online to request application material.

Requesting Application Forms via Air Mail : The other way is to send a request by airmail for application material. The request should contain a brief description of your educational background, academic objectives, source of financial support, English proficiency and standardized test scores.

Downloading from the university website : Many universities have a downloadable and ready to print versions of their application forms on the net. These can be used for applying just as regular forms.

Eligibility

Admission to a College or University in US requires a completion of twelve years of elementary and secondary education. In the Indian context, this implies qualifying in class 12th examination or junior college as applicable. The acceptable degrees include : Indian School Certificate, Intermediate Certificate, Higher School Certificate, Higher Secondary Certificate, All India Senior School Certificate.

You can either pursue a two-year Associate degree like Associate of Science (A.S.) or a four-year degree like Bachelor of Science (B.S.).

Application Requirements
Click the below links for more information
:: Academic Records :: Tests :: Recommendation letters :: Sop :: Financial Support :: Interviews

Academic Records
Students who are applying for a Bachelor program or another undergraduate course would be required to submit a secondary school report and transcripts (report cards) of the final exams. The report form should be filled out by a school official like the principal, counselor or headmaster. This form should introduce you in the context of your whole school experience in relation to the other students in your class. Admission committees will be interested in learning how you have performed in your own educational system. The school report should talk about your accomplishments and provide a prediction of your chances for success in university-level studies.

Since there is a variation between the styles of scoring used abroad and the ones used in India, ask your school to include a guide to the grading standards used in your educational system and your school. If your school ranks students by their level of academic achievement, make certain that the ranking is included with the other details. Also send the school / junior college leaving certificate as and when it is available.

If the transcripts are in a language other than English, then it must be translated into English only by the issuing authority or university otherwise it may not be acceptable.

US Expenses, Cost and Tution Fees

US Universities fall under two major categories: public (state supported), and private (independent) institutions. International students’ tuition expenses at state schools are based on nonresident costs, which are still usually less expensive than those of private universities. It’s important to note that the cost of a program in a US school does not necessarily affect its quality. A brief idea can be got from the following table:University Type Average Tuition Fees
(annual in U.S. Dollars)
Private Institutions (High Cost) $ 25,000
Private Institutions (Low Cost) $ 15,000
State Institutions (High Cost) $ 20,000
State Institutions (Low Cost) $ 10,000

The tuition fee is different for different universities and varies widely with courses. It can vary from as low as $ 5000 a year for state universities to as much as $ 30000 per annum for some private universities. For more specific details, please contact the universities.

Living Expenses

The approximate annual living expenses are about $10,000, which includes accommodation as well as other daily expenses. However, the expenses are different for different people depending on the lifestyles and this is just a rough idea. The main expenses can be split up as:Rent $ 400 per month
(you can live alone with that amount in a place like Auburn or share an apartment with 6 people in NY)
Groceries $ 100 per month
Utilities $ 100 per month
Phone $ 100 per month
Sundry $ 200 per month

So, about $1000 per month is a good estimation. Most people can survive with $700-$1000 a month. The key here is to share apartments/houses so that you save on the utilities, fixed charge portion of phone and to some extent on groceries.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Financial aid is an important factor to consider for students applying abroad. Careful planning is both necessary and wise. Foreign nationals are required to show proof of sufficient funds to cover at least the first year of their college education to apply for a student visa. To compare the total cost of studying in various countries, check out Cost of Education

The burden of securing necessary funding can be challenging, and sometimes frustrating. Your savings (or your family's) may be the only reliable source of funding you have as you begin your program of studies abroad.

Important : University funding is easier to get in the United States than in U.K., Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Most students who go to Australia and U.K. are self funded students.

I thought their time is too precious and it is too premature to disturb them.
I will take the benefit of their expertising skills when I land there.
Is it worth spending this much of money on ur Master?s?
Looking on Future aspects and Income levels, it?s definitely worth.
My parents do appreciate the importance of Quality education.
    Tell me about ur parents?
    Tell about ur parents here.
How they are going to fund you?
I have liquid cash sources of XX lakhs of which X lakhs are FD?s and X lakhs are NSC.
Basically I am from a rich family, money is never a constraint.
How did ur parents accumulate this much money?
We have been into business from 45 years.

I thought I will make amends with my toefl and academic scores.

    X number of backlogs.
(For less no of backlogs)I felt ill quite a sudden in the middle of my exams.
(For more no)Until my engg. I was a good student but during engg. I was unable to balance between my studies and sports so little damage was done but now I made strong amends that I will work hard and achieve what I want.

I did try for good number of days.
When u return back, how much do u expect salary pay?
    5-6 lakhs.
Thanx to globalization the pay packets are good enough in INDIA and this is the pay they are offering now.

Collection of Old F1 Visa experiences

Guys,

I got visa on June 5th 2006 for Oklahoma State University at Chennai Consulate. My major is MS in Mechanical Engg. My Interviewer looks like an American born Indian, infact he is an American. My interview is just only for 2 or 3 minutes. VO looks very busy.

Me: Good morning Sir, How are you doing today?

Visa Officer: he wished me back and asked me to give him the folder which has all important documents set in order by embassy people.

Me: Yes sir. and i gave that folder to him.

Visa Officer: What are your Admits?

Me: Univ of Utah- Salt lake city, Oklahoma State University- Stillwater, University of South Florida-Tampa, Univ of South alabama-Mobile.

Visa Officer: Show me your Score cards and transcripts.

i gave him all those. Her looked at my scores and transcripts and typed something on his PC and scanned my transcript.

Later he released golden words - "U will receive ur Passport with visa with in 2 or 3 days". I am not able to understand clearly what he said. I said 'I m sorry'..He told me same sentence again. In that shocking and joyous moment :), i came out of the embassy. Thatz how i achieved my dream of MS in US ........

Comments: VO didn't asked about my sponsors or my financial status. Same thing happened in many cases. They just look at the confidence and the way you are answering. Always remember that a decent smile on your face can elevate your confidence. After visiting the visa consulate, i came to know that all visa officers always want to give visas. They never want to reject you.

EXPERIENCE 2

Amit's profile: GRE-2030 TOEFL-617 [Old pattern GRE/TOEFL] University: Virginia Tech Stream-IE

Interviewer: please show me your I20.

(amit produces his I20)

Interviewer : what's your GRE score.

Amit: 2030

Inter..: Can I have look at your score sheet please.

(amit submits his GRE score sheet)

Interwiever: You seem to have a good GRE score.

Amit: Thankyou Sir

(Comments- actually amit was quite puzzled as to how the interviewer mentioned as his score to be high. But the matter of fact is that these people usually look at the verbal scores and amit had a high verbal score of 680.)

Interviewer : Which univ are you going to ?

Amit: Virginia tech .

interviewer: that's a very tough school. Why did you choose such a tough school?

Amit: Sir , the specialization which I want to pursue in IE is facilities design. and Virginia Tech is supposed to be one of the best schools for this specialization. That's the reason I chose this school.

(comments-One should never just say that the school is high ranked rather you should try and reply the way amit did ie talk more about the course specialization and don't forget to talk some techie stuff so that the interviewer gets the message that you know what you are going to do.)

Inter..:Do you have any financial support from the university?

Amit: No sir.

(Comment: always be straight forward about your aid status. Don't sat that I will get once I go to the university....etc etc.. remember this will always work against you.)

Inter..: Who's your sponsor?

Amit: my parents

Inter..: Do you have any supporting financial documents?

Amit: Yes Sir.

(amit now forwards his CA statement.)

Inter..: Do have anything more concrete than this?

Amit now forwards his bank statement

the interviewer has a look at it and gives it back to him

Interviewer: All the best son. Study well!

Amit was asked to pay his visa fee. which meant that he had got his visa.

Experience 3

VO: How do you plan to finance ur education.. 17K $ is a lot of money

ME: Yes Sir, My parents are sponsoring

VO: UR parents annual income is only 5L .. how can they sponsor u

(this is the trick question.. u get flustered here.. ur done )

ME: Yes Sir, its 5L.. they have saving of ...L and I am taking a bank loan of 12L ( this was more then required.. my total savings and bank.loan was about 1.5 times that required for 2 yrs ))

VO: So what will be ur repayment per month

ME: around 20thousand per month

VO: ( sounds very surprised and says ).. thats a lot of money... how can you repay ( he stares at me.. like i am some criminal ))

ME: ( with the same tone that he used.. ) 20 thousand is not at all a lot of money.. i am very sure of repaying it back. .it shouldnt be a problem at all

VO: Gives me a proper stare...looks right into my eyes

ME: Give him a smile

VO: Go pay ur fees.. i am on seventh heaven

Experience 4

Me: Good morning sir.

VO: Good morning.

VO: Why r u going to US?

Me: Sir I have been working for the past 3 years now. I always wanted to do research and I think this is the best time to pursue my goals as I have the valuable industry experience and good academic background to support me as well.

VO: Hmmm.. but why only this university.

Me: Infact sir I have got admits to other universities as well and....

VO: Which are the other universities.

ME: (I told him the list)

VO: Ok. So whats special about this university U R going to?

Me: Sir, I have interacted with quite a few graduate students at all the universities and I realize that this university I am going to has state of the art research facilities.

VO: Ok. So who is going to sponser ur education.

Me: My parents sir.

VO: Whats ur dad's annual income.

I thot he said family....

Me: Sir X Lakhs.

VO: Thats ur dad's income?

Me: Oh No sir. Thats my parents income. My dad's

income is YLakhs/PA.

He gives me a stare. Looks at me in disbelief.

Looks thru my papers....

Me: I point out the various documents in proof of Y lakhs/PA.

VO: Where is ur bank transaction statement.

Me: I show him the printout which has the transactions.

Finds a letter which states that I work for Tata Infotech Limited.

VO: Oh. U work for Tata's?

Me: Yes sir. For the past 3 years.

VO: So Tatas is sponsoring ur education?

Me: No sir. Tata's dont sponser higher education.

VO: But Tata's are very very rich.

Me: (just laughed).

Just passes all the documents below the window and says go and pay the visa fees at the counter

1] He [counsellor] asked me about my dad's annual income i told him he is earning about X lakhs per annum ... then he asked me that how much he will be providing you in that X lakhs.. i told him that he will be providing me X-1 lakhs for my education.

2] counsellor after seeing my I20 where it is mentioned my course duration as 3years including 1 year as grace . he kept hanging to it saying that my course duration is 3 years and u dont have sufficient funds to pay for it . i told him that only 2 years is the course duration and 1 year is grace he not even tried to listen my words. so any one going for counselling keep that in mind what to answer if this question is being posed to you.

How to Write TOEFL Essay?

Writing a good essay starts with abiding by the format of an essay. TOEFL essay usually consists of 4-5 paragraphs and NOT more than that. The main paragraphs included by the essay are:

Introduction

The introduction is the first paragraph of your essay. The first few sentences of this paragraph simply introduce the reader to the topic. The last sentence is called the thesis statement and clearly states your opinion. This is the most important sentence in the essay. The introduction is the first paragraph of your essay, and it is important to make a good impression here. If you don't start out well, it will be difficult to convince your readers (or the TOEFL assessor!) to take your writing seriously. Here's what you should know about the introduction:
First paragraph of the essay
Usually 3 to 5 sentences long
Introduces the essay topic
Clearly gives your opinion
Has a strong thesis statement

All introductions must meet these five conditions. If it is missing one or two of them, then it is a weak introduction.

Body

The body of the essay is usually two to three paragraphs long and these paragraphs are known as supporting paragraphs. Each paragraph begins with a topic sentence that tells the reader what the rest of the paragraph is going to be about. The remaining sentences are called supporting ideas because their main function is to "support" the topic sentence.

Conclusion

The conclusion is the last paragraph of the essay. It restates the thesis and gives the reader a brief summary of the essay's main points. This paragraph is usually about 3 sentences long.

2008 Information & Instructions
Student Visa Information
For students planning to study in the USA
It is the responsibility of the student to arrange all
applicable travel permits or visas and to have a valid
passport. In support of a student’s application for an F-1
visa status, Kaplan is authorized to issue a Form I-20 A-B,
Certifi cate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant (F-1) Students.
Submission of the Kaplan Application for International
Students and/or payment for course enrollment does
not guarantee that Kaplan will issue a Form I-20 A-B,
Certifi cate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant (F-1) Students.
As stated on page 3 of this application, students planning
to apply for an I-20 for study in the USA are required to
demonstrate adequate fi nancial support for the entire
enrollment period. Kaplan estimates a student’s cost of
study as follows:
$110 Application Fee
+ Tuition fees
+ $85 per month (Insurance fees, if applicable)
+ Housing expenses, if applicable
= Total cost of study*
*Actual cost of study will vary by center and per
enrollment details.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to determine whether the
$100 SEVIS I-901 Fee applies to his/her Visa application.
For more information, go to www.FMJfee.com. Please note
that this fee is independent of Kaplan enrollment costs and
must be paid directly to the SEVIS administrator.
For students planning to study in Canada
Students who are planning to study with Kaplan for more
than six months should apply for a Study Permit. A Study
Permit is typically not required for students who intend
to study short-term (less than six months). If a student
believes that he/she may extend his/her study time with
Kaplan past six months, Kaplan recommends that the
student apply for a Study Permit prior to coming to Canada
to avoid having to leave the country in order to obtain a
Study Permit at a later time.
Health Insurance
Students in the USA on a Kaplan I-20 are required to have adequate coverage for the entire
enrollment period. If a Kaplan student is not able to show proof of adequate coverage on the
fi rst day of class, he/she will be required to purchase Kaplan insurance. Proof of adequate
coverage includes an insurance membership ID card that is valid through the length of the
enrollment. If a student elects Kaplan insurance, coverage will begin on the fi rst day of class.
Kaplan insurance costs $85 per month (CAD$85 per month in Canada).
There are additional fees for each dependent. Insurance fees are non-refundable after
the course start date has passed.
Terms and Conditions
Fees and Services
The Application Fee is non-refundable. The Application Fee will be waived/refunded if
the student can provide proof that the Visa was denied. Written proof of denial from the US
government is required.
For USA and Canada enrollments, if the applicant postpones or otherwise changes his/her
start date, or other enrollment details, there will be a $50 Express Mail Fee charge for the
mailing of each additional I-20/Letter of Acceptance.
Kaplan reserves the right to change details of its fees and services, including course
programs, course fees, and housing options and prices at any time due to errors, omissions
and other circumstances beyond our control.
Transfers
Transfer eligibility is subject to the regulations as laid out by USCIS and Kaplan policy and
the approval of the Designated School Offi cial (DSO) at the center of study. The student
must report to the Kaplan Center before a transfer can be completed.
Liability
Kaplan and its representatives will not be liable for loss, damage, injury, illness and/or
violations to people or property, except where liability is imposed by law.
Rules and Regulations
Students are expected to follow government laws and all rules and regulations of the Kaplan
center where they enroll. Kaplan reserves the right to expel any student, without refund,
whose conduct is unacceptable. This may include termination of F-1 status. Students who
cause damage will have to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.
Payment Information
All tuition and fees must be paid before the start of the course. A non-refundable
application fee is required for all applicants. The fee is $110 payable in US dollars for
USA locations and Canadian dollars for Canadian locations. Fees can be paid by credit
card, money order, traveler’s check (domestic only), personal check (domestic only),
or wire transfer. Check payments are subject to a $20 Processing Fee if the check is
returned. If paying by check, please allow 10 business days for the check to clear.

The TOEFL iBT at a Glance
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures a non-native English speaker’s communication ability and is most commonly
used by high school, undergraduate, and graduate admissions offi ces in the United States. Students who have received their education in
non-English speaking countries are often required to demonstrate an acceptable level of English profi ciency on the TOEFL in order to be
considered for admission to American colleges and universities. The new TOEFL iBT tests integrated skills, and provides more accurate
information than ever before regarding a test taker’s ability to communicate in an academic setting. Internet-based testing captures speaking
and writing responses, and transmits them to human raters for evaluation and scoring. Score reports include each skill section’s score and a
total score that is the sum of the scores of all 4 sections of the exam (0–120).
To register for the TOEFL go to TOEFL.org or call 1-877-863-3546.
